Parenting Policy

 

 

 

 Georgetown Middle School
Title 1 Parent Involvement Policy

 I. To develop the Parental Involvement Policy, Georgetown Middle will:

a. Conduct an annual fall meeting to inform parents of the school's Title I participation and to discuss the Title I program.

b.. Distribute the policy by way of students and school website.

c. Conduct an annual spring Title I meeting with parents to update the policy to meet the changing needs of parents, community, and school.

d. Hold meetings with our Title I committee to stay abreast with school, parents, and community needs.

II. To build strong parent/community involvement, Georgetown Middle will:

a. Involve parents in the ongoing planning, review, and improvement of the parental involvement program.

b. Implement parent/community nights/meetings-Title I Planning Meetings, Curriculum Nights, Open House, PTO, variety of workshops, volunteer opportunities, and parent conferences.

c. Sign a Title I Parent-Student-Teacher compact to promise to work together to improve teaching and learning.

d. Provide a Suggestion Box both in the guidance office and online & respond in a timely fashion (within the grading period) to suggestions through:

i. School website, telephone calls, emails, personal notes, flyers, etc.

e. Monthly issues of Middle Years: Working Together for School Success

f. The Bulldog Bulletin, newsletter produced by GMS administration

g. Involve parents/community in School Improvement, Career Day, Job Shadowing, field trips, business partners, etc.

III. To share responsibility for high expectations for students, Georgetown Middle will:

a. Explain the curriculum, standards, classroom /homework expectations, and assessments through:

i. PTO/Open House, family nights, grade level meetings.

ii. Georgetown County Student Handbook.

iii. Parent-Student-Teacher Compact.

iv. Newsletters, district/school websites, teacher web pages, emails, etc

b. Provide on-going reports of student performance through progress reports, interims, report cards, Parent Portal, and teacher's web page on the school website, parent-teacher conferences, emails, etc.

c. Provide parents with strategies to help with class work/homework/parenting.

IV. The school will continue to communicate with home and community.

a. Communication is provided on an ongoing basis through:

i. Parent-teacher conferences, phone call, notes, newsletters.

ii. Report cards, interims, and progress reports.

iii. Open house, workshops, PTO, Title I meetings.

iv. Placing our Title I and Parenting Policy in prominent areas in the community (local library, business, etc).

v. District/school websites and teacher web pages.

vi. Parent Portal and School Messenger.

b. Parents and community will continue to serve on the Title I committee, PTO board, and School Improvement Council.
